Role purpose and overview

This role requires a business reporter working to provide a strong portfolio of digital and print products. The primary focus of this role is on macroeconomic news and trends, including currency fluctuations, in the UK, the Eurozone and globally.

main responsibilities

  • Coverage of breaking business news, including currencies and dates.
  • Write engaging features and detailed explanations.
  • Ensuring fast and accurate filing of stories.
  • Establishing contacts with important political decision-makers and economists.
  • Responsible for maximizing digital subscriptions through concise and interesting storytelling.

Basic skills required for the role

  • Strong interest in economics.
  • Highly numerate – able to discern stories from raw data.
  • Demonstrable proof of the ability to tell stories in a concise but interesting way.
  • Digitally savvy – Understanding of digital storytelling and content optimization through social media and SEO.

Additional abilities useful for the role

  • Experience of reporting business and/or economic news in a newspaper, newswire or digital environment is ideal.
  • Ability to regularly generate off-story ideas for news and features.
